Feminist Acting Class Summer Camp Intensive 2023

A week-long collaborative experience featuring 16 amazing workshops from 7 amazing facilitators! Individual workshops also available.

  • Feminist Acting Class is for students of all genders and all levels who are interested in eliminating bias in actor training, prioritizing the work of women, trans and nonbinary playwrights, and having fun in a supportive community of artists.

  • This intensive is intended for adults. Teenagers over 15 are welcome with parental consent.

Join Feminist Acting Class founder Gina Young for summer camp kickoff. Meet your future collaborators and enjoy some easy and freeing cooperative games inspired by Cultural Mapping and Viewpoints.

Saturday June 24

10AM-NOON - CHELS MORGAN - Intimacy, Consent, and Cultural Competency

An introduction to the concept of theatrical intimacy and the tools that consent offers for actors looking to participate in potentially exposing or vulnerable scenes. The workshop will also provide an introduction to the role of cultural competency in theatrical performance, providing considerations for how race, ethnicity, culture, dis(ability), gender and sexuality can impact consent and storytelling.

1PM-3PM - HOWL SPACE - Empowering the Resonant Body

A vocal workshop with Carmina Escobar and Micaela Tobin that seeks to deepen our connection to our bodies and voices through breath work, gentle warmups, improvisation, and deep listening exercises.

3PM-5PM - GINA YOUNG - Feminist Acting Class: Scene Play

Explore a mix of new and favorite scenes representing varying eras of feminist thought and intersectional identities with Feminist Acting Class founder Gina Young.

Sunday June 25

10AM-NOON - ALLISON KEATING - Embodiment

A body-based acting workshop exploring specificity in physicality to create a more unique and detailed character, grounded in body awareness techniques and imagination.

1PM-3PM - HOWL SPACE - Empowering the Resonant Body

Part Two of a freeing and empowering vocal workshop with Carmina Escobar and Micaela Tobin that seeks to deepen our connection to our bodies and voices through breath work, gentle warmups, improvisation, and deep listening exercises.

3PM-5PM - GINA YOUNG - Feminist Acting Class: Scene Play

Go deeper with increasingly challenging scenes from the canon of feminist theatre, including using text analysis to create your own staging.

Monday June 26

7PM-9PM - NOGA WIND - Get Yourself Together! (Industry 101 & Branding)

Noga Wind of Queer UP Agency covers the foundation of how the industry works, getting started, do's and don'ts, and how to navigate it all as your authentic self. In order to thrive in the entertainment industry you need to understand it and own your brand within it. Through an intersectional and queer lens, this workshop will give you the essential tools to form your own brand and stand unapologetically in your artistic truth.

Tuesday June 27

6PM-7PM - GINA YOUNG - Feminist Acting Class: Monologue and Scene Prep

Individual and group work in preparation for Friday’s closing party.

7PM-9PM - KIMBERLEA KRESSAL - TV Writing for the Actor

A TV writing workshop, tailored specifically to actors, that will help you mine your personal narrative to find the stories you should be telling (and selling).

Wednesday June 28

7PM-9PM - NOGA WIND - Representation Workshop

Looking for an agent or manager? Here’s what to expect: contracts, best practices, and how to build the team that you need. Already repped? Here’s some best practices for how to stand out on your rep's roster, and other do's and don'ts of maintaining a good relationship and staying a priority. This workshop is for participants at any point in your career and is presented from a queer and intersectional lens.

Thursday June 29

6PM-7PM - GINA YOUNG - Feminist Acting Class: Monologue and Scene Prep

Individual and group work in preparation for Friday’s closing party.

7PM-9PM - KIMBERLEA KRESSAL - TV Writing for the Actor Workshop Continued

Part Two of Kimberlea Kressal’s popular TV writing workshop that will help you, as an actor, craft your personal story into a pilot.

Friday June 30

6PM-9PM       CLOSING NIGHT TALENT SHOW PARTY!

A fun, student-and-facilitator-only sharing session where you can present anything you developed during any of these workshops for each other, in a supportive and celebratory environment. Let’s party!
